Yesterday was Gisela’s birthday. We are still trying to eat the two cakes from Emily’s birthday, and now there is another one to occupy space in the fridge. This year, after 15 years repeatedly making the typical ice cream cake I changed tactics and went for the more traditional chocolate-caramel cake. The main reason for this is that the ice cream in the Solomon Islands is really bad, tastes like frozen milk and I was afraid that the cake was not going to turn out all that great. Luckily the “normal” cake come out great. I had two little helpers who eagerly cleaned out all the spoons and bowls with chocolate and a happily surprised wife as you can see by the pictures.

Gisela brought a few star candles from Argentina so we borrowed one for her cake. Emily and Mathias gave Gisela some pots to put plants on and a few home made Happy Birthday cards. We purchase the plants that go on the pots down by the beach, however since we are off on holiday next week we decided to buy them after we return. Gisela also got a new mobile phone from all of us.

In the evening we went to have dinner and watch a traditional Solomon Islands dance show at the King Solomon Hotel. We are fond of the panpipe music which we heard the first time while in New Guinea (see here) and last night were lucky to get a full one hour show of it. Then the ladies put on a show with traditional dancing.

Great to 'share' in Gisela's birthday party. Looks very exciting... Emily's reaction to the sparkler candle!!!

I must say Raul you have excelled your previous cakes... but where do you go next year? If this keeps up you will be breaking Records with the size of your birthday cakes!

All the best, Lewis Family
