El viernes fue el último día de clases del trimestre para Emily. Friday was the last day of the semester for Emily in her school

En la escuela fue la semana internacional. Para este evento a los chicos los dividieron en grupos según el lugar de procedencia para que representaran a su país. Mas que nada representaron a su continente porque la bruta de la maestro Yanki los dividió en Norte América (EEUU y Canada) Centroamérica (México???) y Sudamérica (Brasil) Argentina no figuraba en el mapa. En fin, la idea es que los representantes de cada continente iban a hacer cosas típicas del lugar en el escenario (en el caso de las Américas cantaron un canto en Francés por Canadá, otro en Ingles para EEUU y “para bailar la bamba” por centro y Sudamérica (ni que estén prediciendo el futuro de los Mejicanos para el partido del domingo). La escuela de Emily en vez de usar campana tradicional para marcar os recreos etc. usa los tambores tipicos (foto abajo)

The School celebrated International week. The children were divided into the continents and countries were they originated. The Americas was divided (by a very geographically illiterate American teacher) into North America (USA and Canada) Central America (Mexico???) and South America (Brazil) Argentina did not appear in the map she had… Nevertheless the children sang on stage a song in French for Canada, another song in English for USA and “para bailar la bamba” in Spanish for the rest of the Americas (they were already predicting the future for the Mexicans…) In this school instead of using the normal bell to signal periods, breaks etc they use the traditional Solomon Islands drums played by the students.

También hubo stands en las aulas con cosas típicas de cada continente y varios países que son bien representados en número de alumnos. Emily al ser de los niños mas chicos estaba con el grupo de EEUU y tenia que ir vestida de Yanki moderna, pero Gissy los mando a freír churros (y choripanes) y la vistió a Emily y Mathias (y a ella) con las camisetas Argentinas.

There were also stands representing continents and countries in the classrooms. All complete with artifacts from the different places and most importantly food!!!. Emily being in the group of smaller kids was supposed to be dressed up as a modern American girl but Gisela sent the American teacher to make hotdogs and dressed Emily, Mathias and herself with the Argentinean T-shirts (the same was done by our Brazilian friends)

Los stands estaban muy lindos. Estuvimos visitando y comiendo en todos. Las Islas Salomón tenía uno muy bonito y aquí están los chicos con la bandera del país adoptado. Pasamos por la de Papua Nueva Guinea por supuesto que estaba muy linda también y aprovechamos a comer taro, batatas en leche de coco etc. En la de Australia nos clavamos unos buenas galletitas ANZAC que nos encantan.

Los chicos se entusiasmaron con el stand de comida de China quedaron clavados degustando sus comidas típicas, varias de las cuales en casa hemos adoptado también. El stand de Japón tenían papeles para hacer origamis y instrumentos típicos. En fin, había de todo como pueden ver por las fotos.

The stands were really good, we stopped and ate in all of them! The Salomon Islands had a very nice one, we also visited the Papua New Guinea stand and ate kaukau in coconut milk. In the Australian stand we polished off all the ANZAC biscuits. The kids loved the Chinese food stand and took sometime to try all the dishes and then visited the Japanese stand were we played their musical instruments and did origami.

El día de clases termino con la presentación de cada uno de los continentes en el escenario central de la escuela. Las presentaciones incluyeron los cantos de Emily, Gissy y Mathy junto con todo el resto de la delegación Americana. Los actos fueron muy bien concurridos!
The day ended with the continent representation in the main stage at the school. This included songs by the American continent with the vocals by Emily, Mathias and Gisela. The day was well attended.
