The parks in Auckland were the kids favourite places. Unfortunately being a University city with few kids to be seen in the CBD area there were not a lot of playgrounds around for them and after a search through the city we found a small one in Victoria Market and then there was the Albert park which was closer to our apartment but had no playground. The lack of playgrounds was made up somewhat by great trees for climbing and this park become a favourite location. Our initial plan was to travel somewhere out of Auckland after the weekend. However we reconsidered this after a few days and decided to take things slow and spend the week in Auckland resting, enjoying the city noise and the good food. Enjoying good food was what I was doing when I broke a tooth. Being 10 pm I had to wait till the next day to find a dentist who was able to slot me into an afternoon session of reconstruction. The guy was great and after learning that I worked for World Vision just charged me the material costs for the work done. Who said that working in humanitarian Aid did not have any advantages?
The kids spent time running in the park and we followed like good parents. However, when the roles changed and we wanted to walk in the city it took a bit of convincing to get them going. The kids adapted well to the time change, faster than Gisela and generally slept well through the night but woke up very, very early for a few days until they were fully synchronized.
