The Waitemata bay is the main access to the ocean from Auckland. It is more commonly known as the Auckland Bay. In Maori Wait te mataa means sparkling waters. We had a great view of the bay from our apartment. The port area is very popular in Auckland as it has a lot of great restaurants and hotels and makes a great place to walk around or just sit in the sun and look at the activity that takes place. One of the things they love to do is sail and we saw hundreds of Sail boats in the bay every day. The bay is connected towards the north by the Auckland Bay Bridge, an impressive structure from where you can bungy jump.
We took advantage of the beautiful weather and took a ferry trip to Devonport, a little town just north of Auckland. The town in home to the Royal New Zealand Naval base, but it is more well know for it’s excellent restaurants and parks. Parks is just what the kids wanted, and this one was great with a huge playground, sandy beach on the side and stunning views of the city. Devonport also has the greatest fish and chips I have tasted so far and good coffee.Leaving Auckland for Devonport. Saliendo de Auckland hacia Devonport
