Finally after 5 weeks I was reunited with my little family in New Zealand. I left the Solomon Islands on Wednesday and after spending the night in Brisbane arrive in Auckland on Thursday afternoon. I nearly had a heart attack when I left the airport. It was only 9 degrees Celsius and there was a wind that split you in half. I have not been in winter weather for three years so it was quite shocking and took some time to get used to the harsh climate reminding me how much I love the tropics! After I got to the hotel I found a message from my father in law telling me that Gisela and the kids were stuck in Chile with a delay of 12 hours, so now they were only arriving on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile Gisela and the kids were left to wait in Santiago airport and finally taken to Vina del mar (a two hour drive from Santiago to a hotel to spend 4 hours and then travel back 2 hours to catch the 14 hour flight to Auckland. And this is the second time that LAN does this to us on this flight. Very disappointing LAN, long live Qantas!
On Friday afternoon I was at the airport hours before the flight was due and it was great to hug my little family again. We took a taxi to the hotel and they had an early night. The kids hooked up quite well with the time change and slept quite well during the night despite getting up at 4 am the first days. The apartment that we stayed in was great. Right in the centre of town with a great view of the bay and sky tower. The sky tower is a famous Auckland landmark. Standing at 328 metres it is the highest self standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere with 3 restaurants, 3 observation decks and the highest bungy jump in the world at 192 metres. We had amazing weather the whole week we were there. Sun and basically free of wind which is very unusual for this part of the world where it often rains a lot and the days are grey.
